Hunt for abnormal load driver after M6 lamppost collision

Police in the West Midlands are trying to locate an HGV that caused the closure of a stretch of the M6 after it struck a lamppost causing it to fall into the opposing carriageway.

The lorry, carrying an abnormal load, entered a road works restricted area between junctions 5 and 6 northbound and collided with street furniture just after 2am on Wednesday (22 November).

The police said the lamppost then struck a number of vehicles causing damage and officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group were forced to close both carriageways while the lamppost was removed.

Officers are now appealing for information as they continue to investigate the incident and to locate the vehicle involved.

West Midlands police said no-one was injured, but it needed people to contact them if they had dashcam footage or witnessed the incident.

People with information are urged to call the police on 101 quoting log number 0245 of 22/11/23.

You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
