Pawson Transport looks to develop green hydrogen business

Logistics company Pawson Transport is looking at providing green hydrogen to the haulage industry and has engaged infrastructure consultancy firm Market Infra to assess the feasability of its plans.

Rotherham-based Pawson provides a range of services to the logistics sector including transportation, driver training, and fleet services and has both a national and local client base.

The company said its interest in green hydrogen is driven in part by the desire to create a positive legacy in the region and future-proof its business against global changes.

Market Infra, which based in Sheffield, specialises in the infrastructure sector and offers project management services to help businesses grow.

The company, which is a member of the South Yorkshire Transport Forum, has also helped turn a number of hydrogen projects into a reality in the UK and abroad.

The partnership will see Market Infra work with Pawson to help the company understand the potential that hydrogen has for its business operations.

It will look at both the company’s business aims and also the realities of its sites, to establish how to proceed with its goal of a greener approach to logistics.

Through this Market Infra will create a realistic feasibility case, as well as assist on delivery using its project management and advisory team.

Pawson managing director, Stephen Pawson, said: “I engaged Market Infra to scope out the feasibility of producing Green Hydrogen on one of our potential sites. As a logistics operator we need to look for alternative solutions on our journey to Net Zero.

“Market Infra have worked on similar projects and their experience in this field is precisely what we needed.

“Very soon we will be in a position to release further information on our future plans and early steps in the development of hydrogen for the commercial truck market.”

He added that a key aspect of the work will involve combining what is best for Pawson’s goals with the realities of hydrogen power and the location of the site, using the Market Infra team’s depth of knowledge and experience drawn from multiple projects.

Tom Hudson, Market Infra managing director, added; “It’s been great to work closely with Pawson on this unique project – the support from Stephen and his team has been fantastic and we have some interesting outputs to share with the wider South Yorkshire Net Zero community.

“We deployed our technical team and our hydrogen /nett zero modelling tools to provide real insight into hydrogen refuelling and use within the transport and logistics sector”.

The project is currently under development, with initial findings set to be published in the coming months.
