Training specialist HGVC has been appointed by highways service provider Ringway to train up 43 drivers as part of the government’s skills bootcamps campaign.
As part of the deal, HGVC will deliver funded courses with the department for education stumping up 70% of the fees.
The training programme was introduced to avoid a potential shortage of HGV staff during winter fleet operations.
Ringway is responsible for looking after more than 43,000km of the UK’s highway network.

The firm delivers specialist services across the largest highways maintenance portfolio within the UK, including the strategic road network, motorway and trunk roads and the local authority network.
James Clifford, chief executive of HGVC, said: “While the immediate short-term driver shortage has abated, the long-term chronic shortage persists.
“For employers such as Ringway the skills bootcamps offer a huge opportunity to secure 70% of the funding to train up new drivers or existing staff. Fully qualified drivers coming through the existing scheme are ready to go straight into roles.”
